THE music ensemble the Liskeard Chamber Players is giving a concert in St Eustachius’ Church, Tavistock, on Saturday, November 7 at 7.30pm, in aid of the Plymouth and West Devon Talking Newspaper.

The 12 musicians in the Liskeard Chamber Players are based in east and north Cornwall. They play a variety of concerts all over Cornwall and Devon, with an extensive repertoire of chamber music from the Baroque to the present day.

The programme for November 7 features two well-known works — the Flute Quartet in D by Mozart and the emotionally rich second String Sextet by Brahms. The third piece is the Theme and Variations on a Slovak Theme by Martinu, full of folk idiom and character.

The Liskeard Chamber Players are raising funds for the Plymouth and West Devon Talking Newspaper — a valuable Tavistock-based free news service for the visually impaired. The charity was started in 1976 and now has in the region of 200 regular listeners. The service is run by some 80 volunteers from the Tavistock and Plymouth areas. They handle the reading, editing, recording, sorting, copying and sending out on USB Memory sticks a weekly edition featuring local news, features from regional and national papers and magazines and a topical discussion.
