Chagford v Totnes and Dartington
IN this hard fought match the Dartington opening pair of Australian professional Elliott Miller and South African Bertus Loots put on 54 for the first wicket in only eight overs.
However with the dismissal of Loots well caught by Niven off Gribble for a quickfire 40 closely followed Miller just one run later the Totnes and Dartington remaining batsmen found it hard going against the spin attack of Gribble, Christophers and Rowlands, with only Ryan Stevenson (14), Hockin (11) and their skipper Harold Stevenson with a not out 18 reaching double figures.
T and D were all out for 136 in 41.5 overs. Mark Gribble with six wickets for 34 and Jerry Christophers 3 for 15 were the the main wicket takers for Chagford.
Chagford made a poor start losing both Lammonby and Gribble with only nine on the board and facing some excellent fast bowlers from Ryan Stevenson and Matt Hickey, Neal Rowlands and Colin Mortimore had to buckle down to create a partnership which they took to 93 before Rowlands departed for a valuable 29 in the context of the game.
Colin Mortimore followed for 42 with the score at 109 and then Johnny Coburn with 19 not out saw Chagford home with four wickets remaining despite losing Niven for 10 and Stuart Lord needlessly run out for a duck
Youngsters Matt Hickey and Ryan Stevenson finished with 2 for 38 and 2 for 34 respectively and with their aggresive approach to fast bowling are ones to watch for the future.
This win takes Chagford up to third in the league but they face a tough trip to Ivybridge next Saturday.
