Chagford v Bideford
IN this Devon league game played at Chagford, it was a tale of two large opening partnerships, which finally resulted in a draw. Chagford batting first were indebted to Andy Paterson and new boy Gary Sizmur for an opening stand of 86 before Paterson was bowled by Luxton for 45.
Andy Astley with his first knock of the season joined Sizmur and with some free scoring all round the wicket added 106 to take the score to 190 before Sizmur was well caught for 74 and Astley bowled for 49.
Del Lammonby hit a typical quickfire 40 and with Colin Mortimore not out 39 Chagford declared at 274 for 4 to give an additional 3 overs to bowl Bideford. Pick of the Bideford bowlers was J Ford with 1 for 58 in his 13 overs. In reply Bideford made an aggresive start with Ford and Matt Allin in fine form. The two put on 116 attractive runs for the first wicket before Matt Allin was caught by skipper Christophers for 73 off Astley, Ford was also dismissed by Astley for 45 with the score at 142 and although wickets then began to fall at regular intervals Bideford were also to finish on 215 for 7 to earn a draw.
Andy Astley was the prime Chagford Bowler with 4-66 in his 14 overs.
It ended in a winning draw to Chagford, 14 points, Bideford, 9pts. Chagford move to third in the table.
