A NEW seat is to be placed inside the entrance to Tavistock Cemetery, for the convenience of elderly and infirm people visiting graves.
Town councillors at the meeting of the properties committee last week expressed concern at the lack of parking by the cemetery.
They felt parking further away from the cemetery itself made it difficult for people with mobility problems to visit graves.
Mayor Cllr Norma Woodcock suggested a seat should be placed just inside the gatehouse, so that people could be dropped off while drivers parked their cars.
'I think it would be a useful addition to the facilities,' said Cllr Woodcock.
Cllr Judith Williams said cemetery visitors should be reminded that cars were allowed to drive into the cemetery on Wednesday afternoons, enabling disabled visitors to get access to graves.
Cllr Jenny Metcalf, who felt new lines marking parking spaces at the cemetery entrance were 'singularly hideous', suggested staff should park their cars inside the grounds, behind the cemetery superintendent's house.
'It would at least provide two more spaces,' she said.
The town clerk agreed to ask council staff to comply with this request.
