CALSTOCK Rowing Club came away from the Hayle Regatta with much to celebrate last Sunday.
Their under 14s Cornish Randan crew of David Hobbs, Vicki Hunkin and Amy Elmer came first in a dramatic race that saw them swapping the lead several times before pulling away by six lengths at the finish line from the Saltash crew.
This victory was followed quickly by the same three Calstock Rowers being joined by Alice Stratton and Sam North (Cox) to win the under 14s four oars race, this time by several lengths from the second place boat.
The Hayle Regatta also proved successful for other crews from Calstock with the under 18 girls' four oars crew coming second in their race, followed by two third places for the under 18 mixed four oars and under 16 boys' four oars, crews respectively.
The senior members of the club also had a worthwhile trip to Hayle, coming away with valuable points in both the men's four oars and the senior mixed four oars races.
The next regatta of the 2001 Cornish rowing season will take place at Fowey this Sunday, June 3.
Calstock Rowing Club regatta takes place over the weekend of June 30/ July 1 at Calstock. All rowing fans welcome.
