THE Winkleigh Society has come up with a novel way to commemorate the village fair's 750th anniversary.
The society has produced a 'Celebrating Calendar' for 2012, full of photographs of the village submitted by people living in the area.
Chairman of the Winkleigh Society the Rev Graham Warmington said: 'The calendar is full of pictures of Winkleigh and the surrounding area through various times of the year.
'These range from a snow-covered churchyard to a photo of a pig and chicken in a farmyard.
'The photos have been submitted by people from the village and the local area, and we have had some really great ones sent in.
'The project came about earlier this year when we were putting together a Welcome to Winkleigh leaflet for the local tourist information centres.
'We were looking for local sponsors, seeing as many of them were mentioned in the leaflet.
'When talking to the local fishmonger, they suggested the idea of a calendar for Winkleigh. And from this suggestion the idea snowballed from a plain calendar with a map of the area on to the picture-filled A3 calendar we have now.
'The Winkleigh leaflets also came from a villager's suggestion, from Fiona in the village farm shop. She suggested the idea and after being on the back-burner for a while it came together this year.'
The Welcome to Winkleigh leaflets can be picked up from local tourist information centres.
The A3-sized calendar has been sponsored by local firms, and is now on sale at D&S Stores, Londis, Fiona's Farm Shop and the Oasis Coffee Shop at £4.50 each.
The society puts out the village's quarterly magazine, 'Distinctly Winkleigh', free of charge to those in the village.
The calendar can also be ordered from Mr Warmington by calling 01837 83574.
