SOME 60 men, women and children, all sporting Michaelmas daisies, set off from Lewtrenchard School, Lewdown, for the annual Michaelmas Walk on Saturday.
It took them along the way marked Baring-Gould Trail through the Lew Valley.
In good weather, they were led by Paul Wilson and Marilyn Tucker of Wren Trust and supported by a team of drummers from the school and Lewdown Youth Club.
Jackie Hockin officiated over the ritual planting of a clutch of decorated willow wands by walkers whose ages ranged from seven months to 70 years.
The walkers paused at the Dower House with Nancy and Mark Cullen and had tea with Colin Harris of the Countryside Watch Association.
Here they were entertained by the singing of Jim Smith, Paul Wilson, Chris Foster and others, with Cassie Smith on the flute.
The party finished at Lewtrenchard Church, where the Rev John Heath conducted a service at the grave of Sabine Baring-Gould, whose memory the walk honoured.
Afterwards they were the guests of James and Sue Murray at the Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel.
