THE Queen of crime and world famous writer Agatha Christie is being celebrated next month with events staged in libraries throughout Devon. From September 11 to 16 a case-book of crime-related events is being staged by Devon County Council. She would have been be 116 years old on September 15 this year, and to celebrate Tavistock Library is holding a writers? workshop, spotlighting its extensive range of Agatha Christie books, plays and films. Visits from authors, competitions and other events will test how much readers know about the celebrated Dame and her work. Agatha Christie?s birthday is the same date as the 80th anniversary of the publication of her crime classic ?The Murder of Roger Ackroyd?. She was born in Torquay in 1890 as Agatha Miller. The family home she bought in 1938, Greenway in South Devon, now has its gardens managed by the National Trust. Agatha Christie is one of the world?s best-known mystery writers. The Guinness Book of Records listed her as the best-selling fiction author of all time. The workshop at Tavistock Library will start at 10am on Friday, September 15 with authors Judith Cutler and Edward Marston attending.
