‘THE best small film festival in the world’ returned for its seventh celebration of all things cinema last week, with plenty of colourful events at the 2018 Chagford Film Festival.
The 2018 festival programme boasted an eclectic line up of films, special guests, quirky events and hands-on workshops to suit all ages and tastes.
The festival opened at Chagford’s Jubilee Hall on September 24 with the first live appearance in five years for Forkbeard Fantasy, who presented The Brittonioni Brothers, pictured right, a production about two brylcreemed, jet-setting avant-garde film directors.
Other highlights included a World War One Bristol Scout plane, above, lovingly rebuilt over 14 years by the original pilot’s grandsons Rick and David Bremner, along with Theo Wilford — the documentary about the quest to rebuild the plane, which flew over Gallipoli, aired at the festival.
Jennifer Saunders and daughter Beattie Edmondson gave a Q&A after a screening of their film Patrick, and Oscar winning editor Chris Dickens, who won the Academy Award for best film editing for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, gave a Q&A and introduced another of his films, Suite Francaise — there was even a ‘pets’ screening of Wes Anderson’s comedy Isle of Dogs, where viewers could cuddle up with their furry friends.
The festival closed with a sing-along to The Greatest Showman at Endecott House following a fun event in the streets of the town.
