AN East Cornwall band is celebrating its tenth anniversary by cutting its first ever CD. Callington Town Band, under the leadership of musical director Paul Boase, is busy rehearsing for the recording, which will take place this Saturday, July 23. A band spokesman said: ?A varied selection of music has been chosen by the musicians, ranging from the ever-popular Dambuster?s March, to a piece called The Callington Town Band March, which was specially written for the band by Jennifer Murray and arranged by Ian Marshall.? The band recently held its annual meeting, at which chairman Roger Ellard and secretary Ann Ellard stepped down due to work commitments, after serving the band loyally for many years. Vice-chairman Tony Baughan was voted in at the meeting, along with secretary Dee Baker and treasurer Kevin McKane. Paul Boase remains the musical director and Ian Marshall is bandmaster. The band now has two dozen members but would enthusiastically welcome any experienced musician who would like to join them. Less experienced musicians are welcome to join the training band, where musical instruments can be borrowed if required. Both groups meet in the band room at Callington Museum on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 7.15pm for the training band ? the main band meets at 7.30pm onwards. Anyone interested in taking on the role of chairman, or information generally about the band, should call Dee Baker on 01579 384092.
