IT is safe — and hopefully it will be back on display this Sunday.
The seven-foot brass candlestick stolen from the St Boniface Catholic Church has been recovered by Okehampton police and returned to the parish priest Father Michael Koppel.
'I'm delighted it's been returned and I'm grateful to the Times article that clearly helped in retrieving the candlestick,' said Father Koppel.
He said he hoped the item would make a welcome re-appearance in the church on Sunday — but added that because of the theft the premises are currently kept locked up.
'We will be looking into security matters,' said Father Koppel.
'I have the overwhelming support of the congregation over this matter.
'We just hope that we can find some way of providing security that isn't too obtrusive but that will ensure the property is protected.'
l A person has been charged concerning the theft and is due to appear in court on April 15.
