WINKLEIGH-based Chulmleigh Learning Community Gospel Choir were one of the guest performers at a special concert at Exeter Cathedral last month. The cathedral hosted the 25th celebratory concert for HospiceCare SW. Four Exeter schools were invited to perform as well as the gospel choir, which is based at Winkleigh Primary School. The choir was formed in January 2006, initially set up in order to give Key Stage 2 pupils across rural Devon the opportunity to come together to develop vocal technique and explore a diverse range of musical styles. The choir is open to pupils across Chulmleigh Learning Community. Three pupils must be mentioned for superb solos and improvisations on the night. They are Hamish Inglis, Abby Scarlett and Cathy Turner. CLCGC sang three songs on the night, Any Dream Will Do, Lean on Me and Lord I Lift Your Name on High. Exeter College Inspirational Choir also performed and following the success of the event are hoping to collaborate on something with the KS2/3 choir. It was a prestigious event and parents said being part of the audience in such a beautiful building made it a very special evening. The choir was directed by Devon music development leader Debbie Kent and music subject leader from Winkleigh Primary, Naomi Alexander. They were accompanied by a ?live? band on the night. The trust raised £2200.
