CASTLE Drogo is urgently seeking reinforcements to join its team of volunteer room stewards this season. The castle's garrison is steadily depleting and it needs new troops to man the ramparts. Despite its tough granite exterior, this 20th century home has a unique grandeur and lived in feel that the Drogo team are keen to share with their visitors — but they need more help to continue doing so. With fewer room stewards on hand this year, areas of the house are sometimes roped off, reducing access to a number of rooms and diminishing the distinctive character of this grand family home. The property is looking to enlist the support of new room stewards to help all its visitors experience Drogo at its best, and is eager to hear from anyone who is interested in getting involved. Julie Tucker, visitor services officer, said: 'We have a very dedicated group of volunteers here at the castle but we need more people to join our friendly team. 'If you enjoy meeting people and are able to spare one day a week or fortnight to help us as a room steward, you could make new friends, have a good time and become part of the active community here at Drogo while supporting the work of the National Trust.' 'Room stewards do not need to have any prior knowledge of the property as all necessary information and full support is provided. 'Volunteers also have their travelling expenses reimbursed, have the opportunity to go out for trips and meals and, after a qualifying period, receive free entry to National Trust properties and a discount in their shops and catering outlets.'
