A MARY Tavy woman will shortly be seen on national TV, as she features in the BBC programme ?Cash in the Attic? writes Lindsay Bright. Joan Chamberlain, 84, was watching an episode when she decided to contact the programme. ?Cash in the Attic? involves a search through participants? homes for items of worth, in order to help people like Joan raise money for something they need or want. Joan needs some extra funds to buy an easy-to-manage wheelchair. ?I gave them a call and they came to see me,? said Joan. She showed them a collection of items. The prized possessions she hopes will raise the most money is a dolls? house and money box. The dolls? house was given to her by her mother. Joan said she used to play with it when she was younger, then so did her daughter, and now her granddaughter enjoys using it. The money box was given to Joan by her grandfather when she was just two years old. Joan last week took the starring role in front of the cameras in Tavistock?s Mobility Solutions, as the film crew watched her look for a suitable chair. As Joan has Parkinson?s Disease she relies on her daughter Sarah Tattersall and her family to look after her. They were looking for a lightweight chair which was easy to use. Joan hopes to find out the value of her items soon. The programme is due to be broadcasted later this year. Joan said: ?It is a meeting to support people with Parkinson?s and their carers, as it?s very hard work. It?s labour intensive.?
