A LACK of response from the authorities to the offer of a millennium seat for Okehampton has resulted in the money being donated elsewhere.
Okehampton benevolent society, the Oketon Lodge of the RAOB, decided to withdraw its offer of a seat after it waited 15 months for a reply from Okehampton Town Council and West Devon Borough Council.
The £1,500 millennium fund is now being split between the Okehampton Scouts, the New Hospital Appeal, Okehampton Argyle Youth Football Teams, Hospiscare, Save the Children and the Devon Air Ambulance.
Secretary of the Oketon Lodge David Smale said although he had been contacted since by the authorities who apologised for overlooking the matter, the committee had not changed its mind on giving the money to other causes.
Mr Smale said it was too late for the borough council to say now that it would welcome the offer.
It was intended to place the seat in the St James Chapel enhancement area as a thank you for all the support from townspeople towards the lodge's fundraising.
'Our membership felt someone else would appreciate the money more,' added Mr Smale.
