THE co-ordinator of the new Okehampton Hospital Tree of Life campaign this week said there had been a phenomenal response to the appeal, which was announced in the Times two weeks ago.
The campaign aims to raise £100,000 to complete the planting scheme at the hospital, which is due to open its doors in May.
Karen Percival, appeal co-ordinator, said a magnificent £1,102 has been raised in just a few weeks.
Karen said: ?We?ve had an incredibly positive response - it?s been wonderful. I?ve had lots of people attaching notes to their forms saying what a great idea it is.?
A £10 donation to the Tree of Life campaign buys a tree or shrub for the hospital grounds - everyone contributing to the scheme will receive a landscape drawing of the site showing the position of their plant in the garden. And with some 2,500 specimens to be planted, there?s lots of choice and scope to choose from!
A public meeting is being held tonight (Thursday) in the Charter Hall to reveal the plans for the final stages in the building of the hospital - the creation of its grounds and a pioneering, healing garden.
Presentations will be made by the hospital architect, a garden designer and a Japanese expert in holistic healthcare.
The aim is to make the gardens and grounds of the hospital part of the healing process itself - and tremendous care is being put into the planning of the entire scheme.
Karen urged everyone to try and make an effort to attend the meeting to learn more about the exciting final stages of the hospital?s creation.
The meeting begins at 7.30pm ? all are welcome.
