THE increased use of cars and lorries and the pollution caused is a major factor in the process of global warming.
It would seem to be folly to push for lower fuel prices if this is going to be at the cost of a sustainable environment. People have died in the recent storms and these were due in part to global warming.
Rather than seek cuts in fuel tax, would it not be more appropriate to lobby the government to use the revenue raised from fuel taxes to improve public transport and to fund substantial research into alternative fuels?
It may be difficult for people to find the money to run their cars in rural areas, it will be even harder getting them to run under water!
