AN event hosted by The Salvation Army at Tavistock Town Hall raised much needed funds for the Tavistock mayor's chosen charity 'Make a Difference'.

'Carols for the Community' on Sunday, December 7 saw everyone enjoying carols, Christmas music, scripture readings and the singing of Fionnuala Perry to her own harp accompaniment.

The crowd was enchanted by the choir from Whitchurch Primary School, under the directorship of Karen Higginson, with headteacher Angela O'Shea-Warman supporting.

The Mayor of Tavistock Cllr Harry Smith with his consort Mary Smith were present at the event and were able to hand a cheque for £396 to Sandy Edney for 'Make a Difference', which provides help for those with mental issues in this area.

Thanks were expressed to all who took part, to those who attended and for the money raised, Tavistock Town Hall staff and the sponsorship of The Terrace Restaurant, Lamerton Handbell ringers, Day Lewis Pharmacy, I Love Candy, Mainly Stationery and P and J Howell Butchers.
