A SPECIAL carol service is to be held at St Andrew's Church, Plymouth on this Saturday, in honour of the servicemen and women who have died in recent conflicts.

Organized by the Royal British Legion of Devon, this event will feature the Saltash Ladies' Choir and the Saltash Junior Girls' Choir, as well as lone bag piper John Earle.

The service will start at 6.30pm and is dedicated to the memory of those servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice on active service in recent conflicts, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This very special occasion is expected to attract a large attendance from the citizens of Plymouth whose association with the armed forces has traditionally been very strong.

In addition to serving members of the armed forces, several Legion Standards will be present together with representatives of Devon's Army Cadet Force.

Lessons will be read by Rear Admiral Christopher Snow, CBE, RN, the Flag Officer Sea Training and Brigadier Gordon Messenger, DSO and Bar, OBE, RM, the Commander of 3 Commando Brigade.

The collection will be donated to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.
