CARNIVAL spirit will envelop Okehampton this Saturday as dazzlingly decorated floats take to the town?s roads for this year?s carnival. The grand evening procession begins at 7.15pm, led by Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, who will also be playing a selection of music in Fore Street prior to the start of the evening procession. Following the crowning of this year?s carnival queen, Vicky Stevens, the procession of floats will leave Mill Road and head through the town centre to Crediton Road, Limehayes Road and Exeter Road, returning later to the centre of the town. The afternoon children?s procession will set off from School Way at 3.15pm. Before the procession can get underway, this year?s Prince and Princess Ryan Dowding and Connie-jayne Bailey will be crowned. The town centre will be closed to all traffic from 6.45pm to 8.45pm and Mill Road from the waterwheel to the bottom of Station Road will be closed from 5pm. There is still time to enter a float for the procession, with forms for the children?s procession available on the day if parents have been unable to fill them in beforehand. Entry forms are available from Krafty Cards and J C Books or telephone Shirley Friend on 01837 52230 if you have any further queries. As usual there will be a fair in Simmons Park on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, open nightly from 6.30pm and from 2.30pm on carnival day.
