ORGANISERS of Bere Alston Carnival have pledged future events will be in memory of popular stalwart Beryl Mills, who died last month.
Carnival secretary Fiona Maddock said long-serving captain Beryl was the backbone of the team. She added: ‘She was always there at the heart of village activities, an active member of the local community, a busy worker, well organised and always with a smile on her face. These last couple of years have not been an easy time with most of our events cancelled, but the committee are determined to move forward and carry on as Beryl would have wished for.’
At the recent carnival committee annual meeting, Adam Smith was voted into the position of Chair. Adam has worked on the carnival committee for many years and more recently as vice-chair. He is known for fronting the committee at public events, such as when hosting Bere Alston fun days, the carnival and bingo evenings.
Mrs Maddock added: ‘The committee would like to express their condolences to Beryl’s family and trust that by continuing to make every effort to sustain the carnival committee and continue with our annual events that this is their best way of remembering Beryl.’
