MANY charities, clubs and organisations have benefitted from the proceeds of this year?s Tavistock Carnival. A total of £7,525 was distributed from the Tavistock Lions event and many representatives from local organisations were at the parish hall last week to receive the money. Those who benefitted included the local branches of Lupus, Riding for the Disabled, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Mencap, the British Heart Foundation and Tavistock Area Support Services, who all received £500 each. There were donations to St Luke?s Hospice, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Tavistock Hospital Triangle Centre and the benevolent funds of the police and fire service. Other groups who took part in the parade also received donations. The Lions Club said it was delighted with the success of the carnival which had benefitted greatly from the financial sponsorship of George Wimpey. Next year?s carnival week which starts on July 14 will have a ?music? theme.
