CARADON District Council is scrapping fees for community organised events held in its parks to boost local fetes and fun days. Caradon's head of operations and technical services Jerry Masters said rising insurance costs and new licensing requirements by Central Government were making it increasingly difficult for communities and charities to organise free or low cost events. 'By scrapping fees for applications to use our parks for these events, we hope to help ensure the survival of non-commercial traditional fetes and fun days that might otherwise disappear,' he said. Permission still needs to be sought from Caradon to hold events on council land, and charges will still be made for commercial events.
