FIREFIGHTERS from Princetown were called to the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale last Thursday to tackle a blaze in a Ford Escort parked outside the pub.

No-one was injured in the fire, which started in the engine compartment of the car. The woman driver had just driven 250 miles to Devon from Kent.

Fire officer Brett Johnson said in the event of car fire, motorists should get as far from the vehicle as possible and alert emergency services immediately.

l Princetown Fire Station Open Day will be held this Sunday, starting at 11 am.

Fire engine rides, a bouncy castle, chip pan fire and breathing apparatus demonstrations are all in the programme — Cappa the fire service arson detector dog will also make a visit.
