SARAH and Matt Smith, from Chagford, ran more than the extra mile last weekend when they took part in the British 10K London Run on Sunday 1 July, in aid of UK charity, the Blood Pressure Association (BPA). Sarah, 39 and husband Matt, 37, were among 20,000 people who ran 10k through the heart of London, passing many of the capital?s famous landmarks including Hyde Park, Trafalgar Square, St Paul?s Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament. ?I used to work at the Blood Pressure Association, running their information services department, so I know how important it is to maintain a healthy blood pressure,? said Sarah. ?High blood pressure is such a common condition, affecting one in three adults, yet many people struggle to manage it and worry about their future health. ?The BPA is a fantastic charity which offers information and support to help people understand more about their condition and how it can be treated. ?The charity works to inform people so they can take the correct steps to control their blood pressure and reduce their risk of developing a stroke, heart attack or heart disease. ? I can?t think of a more worthy cause to support.? Nickie Roberts, executive director of the BPA, said: ?As a former member of the BPA team, Sarah really understands just how important it is to raise awareness of high blood pressure and, crucially, to be able to help people who want to be in more control of their own health. ?We?d like to thank Sarah and her husband Matt for giving up their weekend to take part in the 10k run on behalf of the BPA. ?Too many people die unnecessarily each year due to uncontrolled blood pressure, but with funds raised from events like this, the BPA can help more people take control of their condition.?
