Devon County Cup

South Zeal Utd 1

Cheriton Fitzpaine 2

BOTH teams served up a real treat of a cup tie. A bright start with attack in mind brought both goalkeepers into action.

Adam Cann in the Zeal goal excelled with a string of saves. It seemed it would be Zeal's day, especially when Roger White forced a goal with a glancing header.

Cann grabbed a ball on the ground to make a brave save. Then a penalty was awarded for a trip in the area and an equaliser was staring Zeal in the face, but Cann made a super save.

In the second half Cheriton's passing was of a high quality and with the ball flashing across the face of the goal and the sun causing problems they equalised with a close shot from a low cross.

The game stepped up to a higher gear. Reg Wonnacott headed out from under his bar and a series of corners put pressure on the Zeal defence.

The game was finely balanced when Tim Sanderson had the misfortune to slice a clearance into the path of a Cheriton striker who settled the result with a low shot out of the keeper's reach.

This week away to Crediton, kick-off 2.30pm.
