If you believe the other parties they are all ?green? now. Just a moment?s thought, however, will show that this is nonsense. Only the Green Party has a set of ideas that hang together and make environmental sense ? and are willing to tackle the big problems head on. Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing this country yet none of the other parties are willing to face what it could mean to our way of life. Similarly, on transport, energy and food the others merely offer more of the same ? but we have to make serious and far reaching decisions soon. They may seem unpalatable decisions, but they can be turned to our advantage. Extended recycling, energy efficiency and renewable energy schemes, for example, will create many thousands of jobs and create a cleaner, more pleasant environment. Green policies on tax and housing will reintroduce the concept of social justice sorely lacking in the present way of life where big business is fast taking over our lives ? and where Private Finance Initiatives are seeing our public assets being pawned to private investors. Greens have far-reaching policies on the developing world and the serious problems they face ? many of which stem directly from our greed. Here in Devon we need to implement our ideas on how to go for a more sustainable agricultural policy ? after all our present day farming is based on the wholesale use of fossil fuel. We also support a more serious approach to animal welfare. At the moment we still have a choice ? business-as usual by the professional politicians or a genuine green and sustainable future where we as humans choose to demonstrate our solidarity with the natural world, the poor and generations yet unborn. Choose Green and you will have chosen the Politics of Life. You will have been bombarded with leaflets saying ?vote tactically? ? yet surely it is more honest to vote for what you believe in. Vote Green and you will get Green policies ? from a local man who hasn?t been parachuted in to the area. In May 2003, I stood for Torridge District Council and once again, as over the last 22 years I beat both Lib Dems and Tories. No Labour candidate stood, but I always beat them as well ? so do not believe the other parties when they say a Green vote is a wasted vote!
