enthusiastic volunteers are being sought by St Luke's Hospice to help with supermarket collections for various dates from now until the end of the year.

St Luke's Hospice costs more than £5.5-million a year to run with £3.8-million of that being raised by charitable donations from the communities it serves.

The hospice is trying to ensure it reaches its target this year, by asking for donations from the public and in order to do so, volunteers are needed.

Kate Barrett, St Luke's volunteer services co-ordinator, said: 'We currently have more than 1,100 volunteers but we are always on the lookout for eager and enthusiastic people who are willing to give up their time and help us in a number of ways.

'In particular, we are currently looking for people who can give up a couple of hours of their time to help us collect in supermarkets in Tavistock and other areas. If you have some time to spare, then we want to hear from you.'

Supermarket collectors are needed in Tavistock on Saturday November 20, Friday December 10 and Saturday December 11.
