A WEST Devon based animal charity is this week appealing for volunteers to help the important work carried out by its staff.
South West Equine Protection is supported by a huge network of volunteers spanning across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and Helen Tuck, pony loan co-ordinator, said the charity could not operate without their help.
Helen said: 'At the moment we urgently need weekend volunteers to help on our yard which is based in Yelverton, just off the A386.
'We understand that weekends are often a time when people want to see their families as well as other commitments they may have, so this is also a point when people are reluctant to give up their time to volunteer.
'You do not need to have any experience with horses or ponies, just be an enthusiastic person who doesn't mind being outdoors in all weather.
'This is quite a physical volunteering role, with tasks such as filling haynets, emptying wheelbarrows, sweeping the yard and poo picking the fields.
'There are staff members on hand at all times to help with any queries and there is the opportunity to start some training if this is of interest.'
