AN appeal for extra help was this week issued by members of Okehampton Foodbank, which is struggling to man its packing station at present.

The foodbank really needs some extra people willing to give a few hours' time to help fill the boxes of provisions which are handed out at the bank on a Friday.

Chrissie Taylor, of the foodbank, said: 'We desperately need helpers on a Thursday to make up the parcels.

'The food is taken to OK Leisure and we have to carry it up to the Baptist Church on Friday mornings — we don't need drivers, we actually carry it up there.'

The foodbank is also in need of some of the basic items which make up the food parcels.

Chrissie said: 'Things were getting a bit lean until two weeks ago, until harvest really, but this week we had no squash, very little juice and no milk.'
