SPREAD your wings and become an internet angel is the call going out to West Devon residents from Devon County Council.
The council is supporting a major campaign to encourage people that have never used the internet, to try it out.
Libraries in Devon have been offering free taster sessions, which have been in such great demand that the sessions are being extended to the end of July.
In addition to the free library sessions, the campaign aims to get people to show friends and family how to get online and send e-mail for the first time.
Cllr Christine Channon, Devon County Council?s champion for electronic government, urged people to come forward and pass on their computer skills to other people.
The campaign has found people from all over Devon dipping their digits into the internet and results so far indicate that 25 percent had not used a computer before, 46 percent had not accessed the internet, 91 percent found the taster sessions helpful, and 75 percent wanted to learn more.
Internet Angels can find a pack which gives them everything they need to know about helping a friend or family member try the internet for the first time, by logging onto http://www.ukonline.gov.uk">www.ukonline.gov.uk and clicking on ?How to become an Internet Angel?.
In the coming months, together with BBC Radio Devon, the County Council will be launching the ?Devon In Touch? project. A specially equipped vehicle will be touring villages and towns offering training in computer access.
