KELLY College swimmer, 17-year-old Cameron Brodie, secured his place for the Scottish 2010 Commonwealth Games Team after hitting the qualifying time in the 200m fly at the European Junior Championships in Helsinki.

Cameron finished fifth in the final of the 200m fly at European Junior Championships in a lifetime best performance time of 2.00.17. His time was a significant 0.1 seconds inside the steep qualifying standard set by the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland.

Only a handful of Scottish swimmers have made the qualifying standard for this, the second largest championships event outside of the Olympic Games. Cameron, at 17 years-old, remains the youngest swimmer in the men's line up for Delhi.

Robin Brew, the director of swimming at Kelly College, said: 'In the lead into the final at the European Junior Championships, Cameron kept everyone guessing as he progressed from the heats to semi finals, posting strong times which were in contention and showed promise, but it was his big push in the final that tipped the balance, as he went through his 100m split in a blistering 56.90.

'Cameron will now return to Kelly College in Tavistock to continue training through the National Championships and prepare fully for the Commonwealth Games in India which will be held between October 3-14.'
