CHAGFORD will be in the spotlight tonight (Thursday, July 22) as a BBC film crew broadcasts live from the launch of the town?s Arts Festival.

Organisers of this year?s event have invited people to come along this evening and be part of the occasion as the BBC Spotlight team do a live feed from Chagford.

The excitement gets underway with the grand festival opening parade and evening of family fun, with visitors invited to dress up in masks and costumes with a ?carnivale? theme.

The free event kicks off at 6pm with music in the square from percussion band Beatroute, who will lead a parade to the foot of Meldon Hall where an evening of entertainment, comedy and fun will end with a spectacular fireworks display.

This is the fourth year Chagford has hosted its own arts festival which runs between July 22-25. Other highlights during the weekend include a concert by the Bingham String Quartet featuring local clarinetist Victoria Loram and Moor Poets; roots reggae band Delroy O?Gilvie and the Justice Crew; an Edith Piaf tribute act and lots more live music besides.

On Saturday, July 24, there will be a theatre production of the Jerome K Jerome classic ?3 Men in a Boat? staged in the Jubilee Hall.

A collection of ?self-portraits? created by Chagford residents will be on show as part of the festival.

More than 80 submissions have been received and the exhibition will be opened tomorrow (July 23) at the Barns, Chagford by Alan Lee, the Oscar-winning creative director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
