A VALUABLE Led Zeppelin LP on sale at a Tavistock charity shop could bring in enough money to provide safe water for 200 people. The LP was donated to the Oxfam Books and Music Shop in North Street ? volunteer Terry Hyde, in charge of the music department, realised it could be worth more than the average record. Having looked in a book listing valuable records, and double checked it was a first pressing of the first album, he discovered a mint condition copy was worth £500. ?This isn?t mint condition; it has been played,? he said ? but said one in similar condition on Ebay was for sale for £250. ?We don?t charge dealer prices, but we have to get the balance right. We need the money for a good cause. We are selling it for £149, which would provide safe water for 200 people or buy three donkeys or five toilets,? said Terry. The LP is the most valuable item the shop has had for sale, the previous record being £49. There is also a Beatles? single on sale for £24. Terry said they discovered something a little special approximately once a fortnight. ?It?s one of the thrills of doing the work, coming across these things,? he said. He is hoping a serious collector or fan will buy the record.
