CHILDREN and parents are needed for a pageant in Northlew which will form part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in the village.

Juliet Yelland is co-ordinating the event which will all take place on a stage in the village square and depict events throughout the Queen's life.

Mrs Yelland said she hoped it would be an education for the children and even the adults!

'I am learning a lot myself from doing the research — for example the Queen was born in an ordinary house in Burton Street in London and not in a palace because she was never destined for the throne,' she said.

'The children will be dressing up whilst the adults do the narrative and we will have Kings and Queens of different states, Westminster Abbey officials, dignitaries and soldiers.'

There is currently a shortage of army soldiers and officials so more children are needed to take part and also parents to help out so if anyone wants to be involved they should call Juliet on 01409 221446.

All the jubilee celebrations in Northlew will take place on Monday, June 3 starting with an open air service at 2pm followed by the pageant, activities on the playing field, a tea and presentation of jubilee mugs to children. The day will culminate with a bonfire, barbecue and ram roast in the evening.
