AN application to install children?s play equipment at a West Devon playpark is likely to be the subject of a site inspection by Dartmoor planners.

The application, by Walkhampton Community Play Park committee, is for play equipment for young children within one section of the village playpark and for a BMX cycle track and basketball court in another section.

Dartmoor National Park Authority?s planning committee has received one letter of objection to the scheme, raising concerns that the area is hidden from public view and could pose security dangers for young children. The objector also claimed additional traffic could be created by the proposal and that there were no toilet facilities on site.

Planning officers are to recommend to members at their meeting tomorrow (Friday) that a site meeting should be held, before reaching any decision on the application.

Planning officer Christopher Hart, in his report to the committee, said the location of the BMX track and basketball court was the only matter of concern in policy terms.

He said: ?While this is located away from adjacent houses and area for younger children, it would be in the highest and most visible part of the field.

?A better location would be adjacent to the existing hall, in the lower part of the field.?

Mr Hart said a site inspection would allow members of the committee to see the site and meet members of the play park committee to hear their proposals.
