COUNCILLORS in Bridestowe are calling for a 20mph speed limit to be introduced in the village.
A meeting of the parish council last Thursday heard complaints that the road through the village was narrow in places and there were many parked cars. It was suggested there should be a 20mph limit, the same as is in place near the community college in Okehampton — Bridestowe Primary School is on a bend of the main road through the village which currently has a 30mph limit.
Cllr Brian Maddaford backed the call for a lower limit, saying tractors and lorries drove 'far too fast' through the village.
'There are more cars in the centre of the village now and there are so few garages,' he said.
West Devon Cllr John Hockridge, who attended the meeting, urged the school's PTA and others to write to Devon County Council in a bid to put pressure on for a lower limit.
The parish council agreed to write to the county councillor, county ward member Christine Marsh and West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett calling for a 20mph limit.
