OKEHAMPTON 2443 ATC Cadets have been hard at work in the community once again, assisting with a family weekend at Castle Drogo.

The group helped with parking, directing up to 500 cars each day into the castle's car park.

More than 1,000 people visited the event on September 29 and September 30, and the cadets received praise from both the public and members of staff at the National Trust property.

The cadets also camped for two nights, took part in a night-time exercise and ran a cross-country hash in the early morning.

Those aged between 13 and 17 can join the cadets. Anyone interested in joining the ATC in Okehampton is welcome to attend a meeting on a Monday evening at 7pm to ask any questions and see what sort of activities cadets get up to.

Squadron HQ is located at the Railways Sidings on Tors Road, and they meet each Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 9.30pm.

As well as learning about the RAF, cadets get practical training in moor walking, navigation, shooting, first aid, and get involved in a wide range of outdoor pursuits and activities. They also get the chance to take part in the Ten Tors Challenge.
