TAVISTOCK had its first superfast broadband cabinet delivered and installed — a first for West Devon.
Located in Old Launceston Road, near the junction with St Mary Haye, this cabinet will enable local residents to connect to fibre superfast broadband.
It means that internet downloads available will be up to 80 mbps with 20 mbps upload.
It is expected that nationally speeds will increase to 100 mbps later this year.
For those who want fibre to their home or business, that will be available on demand. The current speed available is up to 330 mbps.
Tavistock Town and West Devon Borough councillor John Sheldon said: 'I am really pleased to see this cabinet in the ward I represent.
'I am sure many residents and businesses will make use of this new network.'
Cllr Sheldon advised: ' There will only be so many connections provided and to ensure a place in the queue, you should register interest with BT Openreach and your broadband provider.'

When the cabinet is ready for superfast broadband, a sticker will be placed on the cabinet letting everyone know that fibre broadband has arrived.
