A HATHERLEIGH butcher has been celebrating success at the South West of England traditional pork sausage championships.

Adrian Edwards? sausages won a gold award after recording a near perfect mark of 98 out of 100 in the judging by a panel of banger experts.

The competition by the Meat and Livestock Commission was held recently at Woodbury and covered butchers all the way up to Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

This was the second year the event has been held.

Adrian said samples of both cooked and raw sausage were judged on various criteria, but to get a score so close to top marks was fantastic.

?There is a big gap between getting 90 points and getting 98 points.

?It is a very exact science. This is the best result I have ever had,? he said.

As well as entering his traditional pork sausages, Adrian also entered and won awards for his hickory smoked sausages and minted lamb roulades in a special barbeque competition.
