THE men at Okehampton Golf Club played their first individual qualifying medal of 2008. Though cold and windy it stayed mainly dry and the scoring was good. Division one was won by Paul Skidmore with a gross 71 net 60, second was Jim Oakley gross 74 net 65 and third was Matt Milford gross 79 net 66. Division two was won by Graham Starkey gross 80 net 63, second was Richard Reid gross 80 net 66 and third was Mike Lang gross 81 net 66. Division three was won by Rob Camies with gross 86 net 60, second John Haley gross 87 net 62 and third Rick Grey with gross 88 net 64. Last month the ladies played a 1-2-3 Stableford. Conditions weren't easy but the winning team of Lin Atkinson, Mary Keir and Jane Warren had an excellent score of 83 points. Pat Kirby, Val Hoar and Paula O'Neil were second with 73 and third were Mo Huggins, Cherry James and Lorna Rolfe with 64 pts. The following Wednesday the ladies played their first qualifying medal and Jane Warren had a wonderful round of golf to bring her into the silver division, winning the bronze division with a net 67, second was Maureen Willcocks net 72 and third was Doris Jewell net 73. The silver division was won by Lin Atkinson net 74, second Mo Huggins net 76 and third Marcia Holwill net 79. On Saturday the men played for the coveted Wilson Shield Trophy, winning the trophy and division one were Malcolm Hill, Kevin Cornwall and Barry Coaker with 83. Second were Kevin Harding, John Gillard and Martin Aggett on 80 and a better back nine. Third were Graham Moysey, Malcolm Hooper and Del Owen with 80. Division two was won by Keith Lee, Richard Goodger and Ken Peckham 81, second were Paul Ayris, Kerry Skinner and Ted Brown 80pts also on the back 9 from Gary Carey, Lee Pengelly and Rich Camies in third place.
