A three-woman team from Meadowlands Leisure Centre braved the cold sea, in aid of the Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer, swimming from Plymouth to Drakes Island.

Swimmers Amber, Kelly, and Amy completed the near-one-mile annual Drakes Island Swim challenge, despite having little time to train.

Centre General Manager Amber Francis, who has previously completed the swim, said: “I couldn't be prouder of them for stepping out of their comfort zone and accomplishing this.

"The sense of community this event brings is amazing and inspiring. I am proud to lead our team.

"We are feeling extremely inspired and can't wait for what 2027 holds. My goal is for Meadowlands to raise at least £4,000 for this fantastic cause next year, and I know the Tavistock community can help us get there!"

Meadowlands will host weekly training sessions every Thursday evening at 6.30pm for new members of the team from among its customers.
