A BUS shelter in Walkhampton has been given a makeover with a difference, providing a ‘cosy’ space for people to wait for the bus.

Residents walking in the village on Saturday morning would have been surprised at the new look of the bus shelter, which was transformed by an anonymous person/persons overnight on Friday to resemble a front room.

The bus shelter got a fresh lick of paint and now boasts an arm chair, cushions on the bench, flower pots and paintings on the walls.

The makeover follows a history of vandalism and graffiti to the bus stop.

Burrator Parish councillor Keith Scrivener said: ‘It is a wonderful example of community spirit. There has been a history of vandalism of the bus shelter which has had to be cleaned up time after time. Now we have the cosiest bus shelter in Devon! Well done to whoever is responsible for the good dead.’

The Rev Preb Nick Shutt, Rector of the West Dartmoor Mission Community and resident of Walkhampton, said: ‘I don’t know who has done it and I haven’t spoken to anybody who seems to know, but it has brought a smile to everyone’s faces. It’s like having our very own Banksy, who likes doing some installation art. It has cheered everyone up and it’s nice to have a bit of good news for a change.’
