After weeks of sampling and free product giveaways organised in conjunction with the Times, the people of Tavistock have emphatically named Burts as Tesco’s tastiest local product.
The competition, which saw Burts go up against three other Devon-based Tesco suppliers, Crediton Confectionery, Portlebay Popcorn and Stapleton, was launched at the beginning of September in conjunction with the opening of the new store.
Speaking to the Times, Burts’ director Simon Knight said: ‘This is a great accolade for us from the people of Tavistock. We’re passionate about our heritage, as well as communicating the strong local and regional ingredients in our product that are responsible for its superior taste.
‘In voting for us, we’re confident the local community has recognised this and we’ll carry on working hard to please them.’
Speaking for Tesco, Tavistock store manager Tris Somerville said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted to see Burts win our Best of the West supplier competition. Over the last few weeks, customers have been given insight into some of the brilliant Devon-based products we stock on our shelves here in Tavistock and we’re really proud to support the vibrant community of food producers that is based here.’
