WEST Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett moved into a brand new office in London last week.

The MP has been given accommodation in the new, multi-million pound Portcullis House, right opposite Big Ben.

Mr Burnett said: 'What's been incredible is the huge amount of paperwork we have had to move.

'Although we have the constituency office in Okehampton too there is always a lot of paper — 13 crates have gone up there.

'My wife, Billie, and I have spent two days just moving in.'

Work on Portcullis House began in around 1991 and it has only just been completed.

'The building is designed to last three or four hundred years,' said Mr Burnett.

'I hope many constituents will come and see me up there. We have a lot of school visits, in fact we have two from Tavistock next month.

'Tavistock College sixth form is coming up and a group from Mount House School.'

Mr Burnett's new office is much closer to the House than his previous one at Millbank.

'It was a six-minute run from the House so when the bell rang for divisions you had to sprint to vote,' Mr Burnett said.
