Tavistock Colts 17 Kingsbridge Colts 8 WINGER Braithewaite burgled this victory for Tavistock in their first league game of the season with two interception tries from his own half to take the wind out of their opponents? sails. Despite significant early pressure, Kingsbridge could only look on as skipper Vanstone converted both tries for a half time lead of 11 points. The late first half penalty by the visitors were the first points conceded this season and the Kingsbridge try in the last quarter of the game was answered by a Vanstone penalty leaving the visitors two scores to win, a task which proved too much. Threes Smith, Vanstone and Rooke enjoyed some powerful runs and stood firm against waves of threes attacks and would have scored more had the pack sorted out its poor rucking and mauling earlier. The back row of Lawson, Penrose and Friend got through an enormous amount of work and basically out-muscled Kingsbridge at every turn. The referee had a hard time controlling the two feisty teams and showed four yellow cards in an attempt to cool things down. Fine individual tackles from Vince and Wadland were a feature of the game which, whilst scrappy at times, never failed to excite.
