NARCISSI bulbs have been planted around Bere Ferrers Parish as a tribute to the late market gardeners of Denham Farm in Bere Alston.

Members of the Bere Ferrers Spring Flower Show committee were given permission to collect Narcissi bulbs from Denham Farm, home of the late Alan and Lucy Langsford, before the sale of the farm. Alan Langsford had been president of the show and was a respected judge. The bulbs were distributed to those who enter the daffodil classes of the Bere Ferrers Spring Flower Show.

As Narcissi bulbs and their breeding had been Alan's passion, Betty Endean thought it would make a lasting tribute if some of their bulbs could be planted around the parish. Permission was sought from the parish and county councils. Bulbs were planted near Princess Diana's tree, between Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston, by the entrance to Hole Farm, around the Bere Alston Bowling Club and around St Andrew's Church Hall in Bere Ferrers. Thanks were expressed to Frances and David Pearce, Stan and Marjorie Sherrell, Jacqui and Ken Bellchambers and Margaret Willmott.
