THE site manager at a new estate in Okehampton is in the running for a national construction industry award.

Les Plant, the site manager at Glendare Park, constructed by Redrow Homes South West Ltd, is one of 50 site managers in the South West who has won a quality award in the first round of the NHBC's (National House Building Council) 2002 Pride in the Job campaign.

Les will now go through to the next stage of the competition, competing for the Top 100 Seal of Excellence awards, which will be announced in the autumn.

The ultimate prize is to win the supreme award, which is chosen at a glittering gala dinner in London in January.

The awards are given to site managers who build quality homes for their customers. Through their commitment to high standards in all areas of the construction process, they have demonstrated that they are the best in the business.

David Chapman, chairman of the judges, said: 'At this level we have to look at the smallest details to help us pick out the superlative site managers.

'In the final analysis, we want to see top quality homes that have been constructed with meticulous attention to detail. All these winners have managed to meet this standard and they can be justly proud of their achievements.'
