A BUDGET seminar took place at Okehampton Rugby Club last Wednesday for local businesses and private clients of organisers Stones Solicitors and Simpkins Edwards

This was the first time either of the Okehampton-based firms have run such an event in direct response to the Chancellor's Spring Budget, and, having received a positive response from attendees, it is likely to become an annual occurrence.

Following an introduction by Stones' senior partner Hugh Winterbotham, seminar attendees first heard from Simpkins Edwards tax partners Chris Bowker and Sean Grinstead on the personal and corporate tax issues raised by the Budget.

Robert Mitchell of Stones completed the presentations, covering stamp duty issues and a general overview of inheritance tax.

After a question and answer session, attendees and staff from both firms continued discussion over a finger buffet provided by the rugby club caterers.

Stones has its head office in Exeter with five regional offices across Devon, including Okehampton.
