Bude U14s 38

Okehampton U14s 24

BUDE started strongly, pinning Okehampton into their 22. Despite committted tackling the pressure caused the score. The home side dominated over the first quarter and were rewarded with a second try to lead 12-0.

Okehampton's first try came from scrappy play in their half with Andy Herrod-Taylor diving on the ball and popping it in a single movement to Richard Bolt who scythed through the defence to score under the posts, Stewart Down converting.

Almost from the restart Okehampton were awarded a penalty. A 50-metre kick over the full back saw Simon Cox force him to touch down in goal. Cox at No 8 went blind and stopped three tacklers from forcing him into touch to drive over for a deserved try.

Bolt made the next try with a weaving 60-metre run through the tacklers before timing his pass for Cox to drive the last few metres for a terrific supporting try converted by Down.

Bude replied with a No 8 break from five metres to level the scores at 19-19 at half-time.

In the second half Bude kept playing flowing rugby and scored a good try using the blindside wing in the fly half channel.

From the restart Okehampton's poor tackling let in a soft try for the catcher and soon a further try found them 38-19 down. Okehampton replied with a final try after successive penalties had been driven 40 metres. Bolt took a quick penalty and dived over the line.

THIS was a test of how much Okehampton had improved, as Exeter comfortably beat them earlier in the season.

For much of the first half Exeter pressurised the Okehampton line, but were unable to score. The home side defended well with solid tackling, particularly from Jack Stanbury and Robert Steptoe, who was making his debut.

They were rewarded when Darcy Heard broke out from behind his own line to go the length of the pitch only to be tackled short of the line. From the ensuing scrum James Ewen scored to make it 5-0 at half-time.

The second half started well for Okehampton with a try from Darcy Heard. This should have sealed the match but Exeter scored a soft try which seemed to lift their team.

Okehampton were unlucky when Will Hawkins was stopped short of the line by some good Exeter defence.

Okehampton held out to the last play of the game when Exeter scored to take a well earned draw.

Exeter Saracens U9s 15

THIS was an evenly fought game, with both sides keen to run with the ball. Okehampton scored first when William Searle made a break down the wing and fed the ball inside to Merrick Kirby who charged over

the line.

Paul Cooper had a good game with some fine breaks as did Jordon Lee. Exeter came back with good running rugby, and would have levelled the score, but for excellent tackling from Edwin Kendall who was making his first appearance.

Kirby made a strong run up the middle and passed the ball to Searle who scored in the corner. Exeter then got a try back to make it 10-5 at half-time.

Exeter scored from the first move of the second half, then again to put them ahead.

Despite good attacking rugby from Robert Steptoe and Edwin Kendall, the young Okes were unable to level the score.
